coming and going...
vegas here i come! believe it or not i haven't been to vegas since i was twenty years old, circa new year's 2004. my sister, bev, and i actually decided to go on a whim... of course bev planned the whole thing, i.e. booked our hotel and lead us to most of the touristy places. man, i totally remember now... i was a teeny bit of a late bloomer but it was the time in my life when i felt like i was growing out of my childhood, learning new adult things/responsibilities, and exploring boundaries (self/people/geographic). at this exact time the only people i really hung out with were my bffs plus the CAL. i think one day we were bored at starbucks(?) or buca(?) and my sister and i were discussing how we always spent our new year's outside of sd... the previous several years in norcal then london. it was fun and exhilirating to us at the time... looking back now, it was a much simplier happy part of my life. oh how we've grown...
today, i read a final-destination type of article about an ex road runner sports employee from seattle who died just a few days before her bday this year. it described the way she died and it went something like this... she woke up bright and early to join her TNT. she was the first to arrive at the meeting spot, and as she was waiting for the rest of her teammates to arrive, a car had lost control (it was probably a typical seattle rainy day with slippery roads) and hit her. she died on the scene. it wasn't an obituary. it was, instead, a tribute to her and an introduction to a new charity her family and company (brooks) began... what was bizarre was that they included a small detail in the article that gave me the chills. a coworker was reported saying in the article that the dead girl's desktop said, "life's short... run long." it's like she knew life was short and death came for her, hence me calling the article final-destination-esque!
