in the deportations unit where i work, one of the ladies there said to me:

"oh! i have a niece that looks exactly like you because she's got those chinita eyes." *takes her pointer fingers and places them over her crow's feet to imitate the look of chinky eyes then let out a short laugh*

hmmm, after she said that, i didn't know whether that was a compliment or not. so i replied with, "oh really?! cool!" and rolled my eyes.
see, with my response, you can't tell whether i took it as a compliment or found it offensive.
